Long Beach Island Community Towns
Long Beach Island is approximately 18 miles long and made up of six municipalities. The largest is Long Beach Township (LBT) which covers different locations throughout the Island. The other five are Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, and Beach Haven.
When you come onto the island you enter into Ship Bottom and if you make a left, you’ll head into Surf City, North beach, Harvey Cedars, Loveladies, High Bar Harbor and Barnegat Light.

If you make a right on Long Beach Boulevard off the incoming causeway as you enter Ship Bottom, you will be heading to the south end of the island where Beach Haven and Holgate are located.
Ship Bottom
When you come across the bridges to Long Beach Island, you arrive in Ship Bottom. Ship Bottom is known as the “Gateway to Long Beach Island”, as Route 72 provides the sole road access from Manahawkin in Stafford Township to Long Beach Island.

Beach Haven is located between two Long Beach Township towns of North Beach Haven and Holgate. Beach Haven Borough is one of the six municipalities on Long Beach Island and is known as the “The Queen City” and home to multiple attractions.

Holgate
Holgate is at the southernmost end of LBI and part of Long Beach Township as well as the home to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. It consists of more than 400 acres of barrier beaches, dunes and tidal salt marsh. One of New Jersey’s last remaining undeveloped sections of barrier islands, this Natural Heritage Priority Site is an important and productive area for beach nesting birds.
